@Ulitzer95, this is wonderful, thank you. I'll do some enquiries my end first and let you know. The clubs tend to be pretty dire with these things. Last I heard, 2020s details are coming out before end of May. 'springtime' was the result of the last query. Ill be straight on GRO 2020 as soon as possible

Larry King tended to ask easy questions in his numerous interviews, and four teams here answered his "Would I, a frail old guy who also appeared on Hollywood Squares, be a good HPDP pick?" query with a resounding yes. Larry King Now scores for them. Charles De Gaulle gets 45 base points + 27 bonus = 72, Perhaps 30 + 18 = 48, The Daredevil 15 + 9 = 24, and Funeralopolis 25 sub points. Those who had him on their main team will likely get an extra .19 covid points, but I will wait until we get confirmation of his cause of death just to be sure. We have the first scoreboard of the year with Perhaps emerging as the current King with three hits... 1. Perhaps 104 2. Charles De Gaulle 72 =3. CaptainChorizo 50.32 =3. gcreptile 50.32 5. An Fear Beag 50 6. drol 47 =7. Book 45 =7. Eesti 45 9. msc 25.32 10. Funeralopolis 25 11. The Daredevil 24 12. Sean 16 =13. Everyone else 0

That's *my* pick. And if he did die in 2007, I've been done in by a *current* interview with him from 2011! Naturally I looked up all the usual haunts since 2010 and it brought nowt up... (Although I now find that interview was from a book in 1981 and it was just passed off as new. Bugger) Well that answers my "how the fuck is he still alive?" query! (Thanks for the views on the rest of the team - it was trying to avoid folk being on the List of the Missed!)

Just announced that American canoeist John Lysak (wiki), the world’s oldest living Olympian, died back in January aged 105. The oldest living Olympian is now Uruguayan sailor Felix Sienra (wiki) who is 104. To settle a query from earlier this week, it’s also been confirmed that the oldest living British Olympian is 98 year old sailor David Bowker (wiki), who is a few months older than Edna Child.

Going to be hard for her to query her gender alignment with those initials. -
Small query: going back to the original post, what do people think of splitting the world's countries into a tier-based league table based on life expectancy? In particular, do punters from countries below the top tier (eg the USA in tier 2, or Indonesia in tier 3) think this is fair? Btw, you can also get a good visual representation of where different countries sit from this map: https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/life-expectancy?tab=map

Can confirm via a query to DWM that Trevor Ray died in December 2019. So the Doctor Who Guide is correct.

Yes, I'm frankly as staggered as you that it's took me this long to come up with this! In the interest of only running another deadpool if it's one I'm likely to be aware of picks deaths anyway. The game will begin on the 1st February 2019 and end on the 31st January 2020 (this is to allow me to run both this and the Hares Death Pool adequately as the majority of the donkey work needs to be done prior to opening and just before shutting a deadpool. (And because frankly there's enough competitions that open in Jan). It's a somewhat simple affair rules wise, though. Submit 10 celebrities who have appeared in soap operas either as regular actors, guest actors or special guest appearances as themselves and preferably 3 substitutes [It would really help Deathray if you could submit the main team as as Wildcard first then alphabetically by first name and subs in the order you want to pick them. Cheers!] No late changes in this - sorry guys. No famous for being ills welcome, unless they've somehow managed to fulfil the above criteria^ then have at it. Basic Scoring 10 points for a celebrity who is still appearing in a soap when the competition opens. 8 points for a celebrity who left their [most recent] soap opera in the past 12 months for non-health reasons. 5 points for a celebrity who left their [most recent] soap opera in the past 12 months for health reasons. 5 points for a celebrity who left their [most recent] soap opera more than 12 months ago. Bonuses Wildcard Bonus: Basic x 2 for your wildcard pick. The Young and the Restless Bonus + 1 points for celebrities between the ages of 80-100 + 5 points for celebrities between the ages of 60-80 +8 points for celebrities between the ages of 40-60 +10 points for celebrities between the age of 18-40 Triangle Bonus: + 3 points for anyone who appeared in a soap that lasted less than 100 episodes. El Dorado Bonus: + 3 points for anyone who appeared in a soap opera not set in the country of broadcast (country of broadcast being it's primary country of broadcast). As the World Tunes In Bonus: +5 points for anyone who appeared in any soap opera broadcast in more than 10 countries during it's life-time. Survival Bonus: +10 points for any pick who appeared in a soap with more episodes than Doctor Who at the time of opening the competition. Bloody Foreigners Bonus: +6 points for celebrities who appeared in soaps never broadcast in an English speaking country. Bonuses aggregate together, so if a pick appeared in Triangle and Coronation Street they'd get the As the World Turns, Survival and Triangle bonuses. Edit 1: Apparently what TV and radio programmes are classed as soaps is a contentious issue. Here's a list of most of the programmes we accept and your likely to actually want to submit from (there's genuinely thousands of soap operas, I can't list them all so this only covers UK, USA and Irish TV and radio and Australian TV, other countries are permitted but a ruling will be made on a case by case basis). It's also possible your picked a show for one of the main four countries I missed out, so try your luck. Edit 2: Apparently this really is a contentious matter, for the purposes of this pool - we need to define a soap opera, and what spin offs can contribute to inclusion in this pool - so use the below: In response to a PM Query I have had from a potential entrant there's a new rule. Spin Offs - An individual episode spin off will be counted as a part of the main show. A multi-episode spin off series will be counted as a soap opera and therefore eligible. For clarification this means "Dot's Story" and "Perfectly Frank..." would be counted as episodes of EastEnders. Whilst "Kat and Alfie: Red Water" and "Damon and Debbie" (Brookside spin off) will be counted as separate soap operas. Who knew this would be so fucking complicated? Episodes must have been shown on television to qualify, you're obscure direct-to-videos such as "Coronation Street: Out of Africa" can fuck off. Obituary Requirements. A national newspaper / modern equivalent in the primary country of broadcast for the soap opera. (i.e if Barbara Windsor gets an obit in Der Spiegel but not The Guardian or any other UK outlet, tough shit, meanwhile if Der Spiegel obit a German soap star (I genuinely don't know any google brings up Sila Sahin) 1 - Individual home nations of the UK count as a country of broadcast. Everywhere else national obits only. And My Team has been PMed to @YoungWillz for safe-keeping. Just a general query for DDP players. Is there any previous DDP Qualifying obit source that you would like to see return? There were a number of them axed under TMIB's reign. List of axed DDP qualifying obit sources: Yahoo UK, MSN UK, Huff Post UK, Daily Record, Scotsman, Herald, Evening Standard, UTV, STV, ITV regional pages*, Independent (now online only). *I think Spade brought them back, but am unsure... In terms of new media which could be used, there isn't much of note: The National and Buzzfeed UK (ugh) don't really come across as worthy DDP QO sources. Someone has already asked if we'll consider the New York Times, which I vetoed on account of it not being British enough, or at all. Anyhow, having discussed it with the Cmme earlier, is there any of them folk would like to see return? I suppose this is also the open floor for folk to bring up rules changes which aren't possible and the like. There wont be anything that needs heavy website programming changes done, and the limit of 3 teams per person remains. Oh yes, there is a Cmme, but I'll let the others introduce themselves as and when they'd like.

So it is wrong because the minstrels involved blacking up and that was synonymous with racial oppression? I find it easy to accept that it is wrong to black up to look like the B&W minstrels or the gollywog off the jam jars but I still query if your fancy dress intention is to look like Mr T and you are not black then some artificial tanning lotion is required and I don't understand why that offends because it is just a colour like blue and surely if we can get to the point where there is no racism that is where we need to get to - black, blue, yellow, brown, white, purple are all just colours and have no deeper meaning? Otherwise when do we ever move the issue forward? PS Kinnock - welcome back! -
All teams with queries against them have recalibrated. Time marches on, remember to get your teams in so they can be validated, if you are considering joining the fun. I've had a query and I think it would be helpful to point out that I'm not accepting 9/11 responders. John Doe works for the fire department and nobody ever hears of him until he turns up with cancer 17 years later. Really looking for bigger names from that time than someone doing their job. Hope this helps.

how would SirC know you weren’t on a computer just now. Anyway yes that is a solution but his query was why no toolbar option, as exist for the functions shown.
-
You could simply shorten that query and get more results. Also, being completely honest, hadn’t heard of Hammer until she was mentioned in 54321. Same with Crouch, but couldn’t find any info on him until after the deadline and team submission.

Right, one for DI I think...... Following on from the cunto posting about not getting on in the irate thread, I got a new phone today and can't access the site. Keep getting SSL errors, and yes, date/time is correct, tried various browsers etc and can't get on. Stuck DL in a query site and get this.. The network/sim has allowed access before, but can't see security option in new phone. Is it a problem with DL or me :)

Well I promise you, I am a degreed librarian (so one would think I can type a query), and it's all about what your query is and how far you are willing to drill down. But let me tell you, there are PLENTY of names I've never seen that pop up (I spent all day today going over Round 1 names), which tells me each person has their own secret entries they are searching and that's that. I am always impressed with many of the DPers here. Always. Best I can do is read the article and try to pick out the keywords they were using to find it, and develop a search using those for future DPs. Also -- I will never twitter so I'm way behind the 8-ball and accept there will be names I'll never know that are discovered there and only there. And after all that, you may have 5 names who are all similar and only 1 will die, and you need to be lucky to pick the right person and leave the chaff. That is an art that no degree will help me with. I'm learning every day. SC

If attending a baseball game was her sole claim to fame, then yeah, I'd consider docking points, but Tompson has established notability as a Disney animator, and clearly a figure of repute within her company (declared a Disney Legend some years ago). Also note that attending a baseball game =/= actually playing baseball, just in case the baseball penalty prompted your query.

A serious question... Would McCain taking office today do a worse job in the next seven days that President Trump is likely to? Nice little innocuous query I thought I'd lob into this trending thread!
-
The AODP strikeouts list has her as last picked in 2015, so she did previously pass the fame query. Which of course is secret until the name actually dies.
-
To fully reply to your query from a few weeks ago then: well, called that one wrong!

Thanks for that list btw, I think it's finally solved the long standing query I've had about watching someone receive a posthumous Gotcha as a kid, by the looks of things it must have been Bertice Reading. I can confirm that Jim Bowen and Dr Mark Porter were both Gotcha'd as well, looking through the BBC Genome Project: http://genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/search/0/20?q=gotcha+noel&svc=9371541#search
